Happy Holidays, lovelies! Are you celebrating with Christmas lights, snow, hot cocoa, and so much baking? I’m not quite there yet – I’m still hibernating while writing my dissertation like crazy this week. Did you ever pull an all nighter to get a paper done in college? Well I’m basically doing that, but for a week straight. And it feels productive. This is probably the only time in my life you’ll hear me say the words, “I wish I had a dining hall meal plan again.” Except now that I’m older, I’d like the food to be fancier (read: more edible). I know that’s what normal people call ‘dining out’, but I don’t want to have to get out of my jammies to get food.

And we still don’t have a Christmas tree. We planned to go to the tree farm on Sunday after Lucas ran his (fourth!) marathon, but forgot to consider that he’d be too sore to lift the tree into the car (wuss). So instead of pulling out our crafted red and green decor, I’m celebrating the holidays this week by building out this Kitchen Lover’s Gift Guide in between productive stretches of writing. Window shopping online is almost like the real thing. Except: jammies.

{Click directly on any item in the gift guides to view each product or recipe. If you’re on mobile, scroll down for links}

I put together this gift guide for the kitchen lover in your life (*cough*me*cough*), whether you need a gift for under the tree or a hostess gift for an upcoming holiday party. To keep things practical, every item on the list is under $100, with a range of prices to fit nearly any budget. The guide above shows some of my front-runners in every price category, but I’ve got 100+ more ideas (and growing) on my Kitchen Lover’s Gift Guide Pinterest board. Be sure to follow along for more ideas as I continue procrastinating writing my dissertation this holiday season.

In the spirit of giving, check my instagram today for a chance to win one of the items in the gift guide above.

Or, if you’re more the homemade type, here are a few edible gift ideas:

If you’re on mobile here are the links: (mini cast iron skillet, small pinch bowls, small artisan jams, wood coffee scoop & clip, linen napkin, bamboo matcha whisk, smoked chocolate chips, teak measuring spoons, wood cheese knife set, personalized recipe cards, gold serving set, copper snack bowl, Heath ceramics salt & pepper shakers, summer art print, brass bottle openers, cat embossing rolling pin, mint bib apron, enameled tea kettle, walnut cutting board, milk glass mixing bowl set) & {cracker jack, honey lavender caramels, gift in a jar, mashmallows)

Disclosure: This post is not sponsored or affiliated with any of the brands listed above. I received some recipe cards as a gift from Pinhole Press, but it was my idea to include them in the list. Please rest-assured that all opinions expressed here are 100% my own.

Now he’s training for Santa Rosa in August (and trying to convince me to do the 5k….it’ll probably take us the same amount of time…haha). Fingers crosssssed!

It's a subtle change, one mostly perceivable in the baked goods coming out of each, but one that I believe should be celebrated with plenty cookies (both before and after the seasonal shift).

Last year, Zoella (4) peeled and ate a blood orange she’d found in a bush in our side yard when we weren’t looking. We found the sticky peels on the steps and panicked - where did this blood orange come from? Did an animal bring it? Is she going to get sick?!
•
And that’s how we discovered our neighbors have a blood orange tree. By that point, it had dropped most of its fruit except for a few very high up branches that leaned over our fence. The tree is fruiting and nearly ripe again so I’m hopeful I can barter for a bag of oranges in exchange for some slices of this bundt cake.

We’re mixing up our meal planning routine with t We’re mixing up our meal planning routine with this savory gluten-free dutch baby topped with gruyere, a pile of buttery thyme mushrooms, and garlic wilted Baby Kale. Getting out of our dinner rut feels refreshing! Made in partnership with @plenty, this breakfast, lunch, or dinner anytime dish shows off their pesticide-free greens that are vertically farmed right here in the Bay Area. I’ve told you this before and it’s not an exaggeration when I say these are my favorite greens – they somehow taste fresher and more vibrant.
•
I dropped some of this dutch baby off with my neighbor and, without prompting, she immediately texted, “YOM. I would make this. Greens are hella good.” It’s true. The greens are the star. If you’re in the Bay Area, use the link in my profile to find out where to get them near you!
•
Related big news: Ira (2) voluntarily ate cooked Baby Kale without throwing it on the floor or sneakily moving it to his sister’s plate. Even Ira knows a good thing when he sees it.
•
For the gluten-free dutch baby recipe, search “almond dutch baby” on snixykitchen.com. Omit the sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla, and top it with grated gruyere 5 minutes before it’s done. For topping, saute some mixed mushrooms in butter with fresh thyme, and sliced garlic. Then add a few handfuls of Baby Kale and toss just to wilt. Salt & pepper to your heart’s content. If you want the extra flare, add a runny fried egg (eggs on eggs – why not?).
